From my Art Journal...............The Woman Within Myself!!!

Image
I've always loved to paint, but stopped for many years and watching my daughter learn to draw and paint in her senior year in high school, got be back into painting.  I remember back in high school, I loved to paint in black and white and all the gray tones, no color for me, I remember my art teacher telling me to use color, and me refusing to, until I received a warning I would get an "F" if I kept using black and white only.   Well as I was forced to use color in my paintings, I discovered that there is more to just black and white, and that you can do more than just paint on canvas, I switched to ceramics, then to fabric, wood, metal, etc. for the past 25 years I have painted on just about anything and everything and have enjoyed it pretty much, using bright colors and yes still using my favorite combination of black and white.   I was going to do a portrait of my daughter, however I decided to continue with my attempt to get better at mixed media, which is to...

Midnight Masquerade Dance!

Image
Midnight Masquerade Dance! Now this is what I like to do, help out by doing something creative.  I like helping out but my full time job is  out of state so my commuting hours are crazy.  So anyhow, I made 18 masks in three evenings, (1) I first painted all the masks (2) I mod podge all the sequins to all masks (day 3) I added all the gems, and feathers  it was a combined total of 11 hours.   Each is unique, no two are exactly alike.  I hope the school gets to sell them all, and the kids enjoy wearing them at the dance. Here are some of the materials used - missing is the hot glue sticks /gun used to glue the feathers and gems here are a few of the masks - after paint was applied, I used  plaids  products, apple barrel, extreme glitter, and the Martha's new  paints On this photo you can see I started to add the sequins by using mod podge (gloss), once the sequins were secured I sealed each with mod podge, either gloss or...

Creating on Wood!

Image
I do love making jewelry, along with paper crafting, and sewing, and lots of other stuff, but I started by drawing - as  a kid and in HS, I loved to draw and paint. I love the fact that I can still do this but in different ways.  I don't do oil, water or chalk paintings any more - not because I don't like them but because I did these back when I was in HS a lot, and now I like to paint in different ways.  I love painting on everything I can paint on, including my sweat pants! LOL my daughter hates it when I wear these out on public. This is one of my most recent works - here is a wood frame that I colored using Tim Holt's alcohol Inks and perfect pearls - then I used paper products, and butterflies to finish it  This wood frame was painted using Plaids and Tim Holts products and paper products from DCWV.  I made this last year and sold at an art fair. Now lets go back a few years back and take a look at what I've done before. These photos are from som...

Decoupage Rose Fabric Pen

Image
I like to decoupage- so I try it on everything from wood to plastic to glass to just abut anything.  I made a pen for my sister it was covered with fabric - it was white with flowers outlined in black so I gave it color by using glitter mist - not sure the name but it looked like a pretty rose color, then I used Martha's new glitter paint - Well below you will see the steps and a brief description of how I did my sister's pen which is just like the one in this post. Now I could type the material names but figure the photo would be better, not shown on this photo is the heat gun  I used to dry the fabric faster after the  paint and modge podge was used So here is the piece of fabric all ready - used the glitter mist, the glitter paint and the heat gun to dry it up fast.  Here you can see I covered the pen with lots of fabric mod podge I did add some to the fabric too, and  after I rolled the pen on the fabric - I  cut the left over fabric off...

Our First Spooky Halloween

Image
I got some of DCWV Halloween stack and stickers recently at JoAnn's and have to say I love this paper - so I decided to make a picture frame       I used plaid's apple barrel black and orange paints to paint the frame - trying to make it look like a spooky Halloween night!  I also did a bit of stamping on the wood frame as you can see in one of the pictures here - used black embossing powder to outline the heart center of the frame and the white embossing powder for the tiny little ghosts - which later decide to emboss the inside.  I used Tim's distress stickles and just spread with my fingers all over the black and orange paint - you would need to look at the actual frame to see all the distressing - I also took a little bit of plaids apple barrel pure silver and distressed the edges of the frame.  I truly enjoyed making this frame and just loved the final result. Here is a list of materials I used to make this frame: I used Helmar 450 ...
